The President of the Registered Nurses Union was somewhat disappointed not to see more members of the public in attendance at a rally outside Confederation Building this week.
The RNU staged the rally to demand that government call in the AG to examine the amount of money spent on travel nurses, as revealed in a recent Globe & Mail article.
The paper discovered that the province paid more than $35 million dollars to a single agency for travel nurses over a five month period.
RNU President Yvette Coffey says nurses are tired and fed up working alongside others who are getting better pay, leading to a muted turnout on the steps of Confederation Building.
“Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners are working a lot of overtime, mandatory and voluntary overtime…a day off? They need to recuperate.”
Coffey was however, hoping to see more members of the public showing their support.
“This is not about the Registered Nurses Union, this is about taxpayers money, and the lack of accountability.”
