Minister Responsible for Children, Seniors and Social Development Paul Pike was grilled in the House of Assembly today on when government knew that a temporary morgue had been set up outside the Health Sciences to store an overflow of unclaimed bodies.
PC member Craig Pardy asked Pike if the amount of assistance for funeral services provided to families on income support was enough.
Minister Tom Osborne this week stated that he only became aware of the issue when it was raised in the media.
Pike previously indicated that he became aware February 16th, but he offered some clarification on that question in the House today.
Pike told the house today “the question was asked to me and the minister of Health and Community Services; ‘ when were you made aware of the temporary morgue being located near a dumpster?’ That was the question we were asked by the media” said Pike who stated that he saw it on CBC News, “and that is the correct answer.”
