A veteran racing team from Sheshatshiu has won this year’s edition of the Cain’s Quest snowmobile endurance race in Labrador.
Team 99, Saga Boys Vikings, who are father-and-son Randy and Sebastian Malleck, crossed the finish line just after noon on Thursday.

Board chairman Chris Lacey describes this year’s race as an incredible display of courage and endurance.
The Mallecks both rode 2023 Backcountry snowmobiles, and actually ran out of gas near the final checkpoint at Churchill Falls.
But they got some help from Team 72, who gassed them up, allowing them to cross the finish line.
That, says Lacey, speaks to the special character of Labardorians.
“It goes to show the comraderie in the race and how everybody steps up and gets together, because while first place is nice, just seeing people finish and making those friendships, that shows what everybody’s about in Labrador.”
