A man convicted of killing another man outside a Kilbride rooming house almost two years ago will be sentenced two weeks from now.
Dwayne Ginn, now 41, was originally charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 41-year-old Mark Hamlyn on June 14, 2022.
Ginn pleaded guilty last fall to the lesser charge of manslaughter, which was accepted by the Crown and Supreme Court.
Hamlyn died of blood loss from a stab wound to the groin during a fight over Ginn’s late and loud behaviour. It happened after midnight outside the residence where they were living on Old Bay Bulls Road.
Ginn previously cited ongoing mental health issues, which has been traced back to unspecific incidents of childhood trauma.
In Supreme Court on Thursday, the Crown asked for a seven-year prison term for Ginn, while the defence suggested four to six years would be more appropriate.
Ginn, who remains in custody, is scheduled to be sentenced on March 21.
