The annual memorial for the victims of the crash of Cougar Flight 491 takes place tomorrow at Elim Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. John’s.
Eastern Chaplaincy has held a memorial every year since the tragedy on March 12, 2009 when 17 lives were lost.
The Cougar helicopter, a Sikorsky 92-A, ditched in the Atlantic just off the coast of St. John’s as the flight was on its way back on a trip to the offshore after being alerted to a loss of oil in the main gear box.
There was one survivor.
Families, friends and co-workers of those lost are welcome to attend tomorrow’s service at 7:00 p.m. Meanwhile, for years loved ones have gathered at the gate outside Cougar each March 12 for their own private moments of remembrance.
