The House of Assembly has adjourned until next Wednesday, Budget Day, after sitting for just under two weeks.
The reason, according to the Premier’s Office, is that all of the necessary business for this session was concluded quicker than expected, prior to the budget being brought down.
The House closure is not sitting well with the Official Opposition, however.
Since the Legislature opened March 4, the public galleries have been filled with people, mostly fish harvesters and, for one day, members of and advocates for people still living in the tent encampment outside the Colonial Building in downtown St. John’s.

PC Leader Tony Wakeham argues there is now no forum for public accountability for the rest of this week and into the next, all while issues such as the fishery, health care, housing, and overall affordability “grip” the province.
Wakeham accuses government of “running” from their questions.
He believes they have run out of ideas and plans, and “have nothing to bring and nothing to fill the few hours of debate that the House is open.”
