A man from Clarenville is facing drug trafficking charges following the search of a tractor trailer in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
RCMP in Nova Scotia say the tractor trailer, en route to Newfoundland, was intercepted on March 2 as part of an ongoing investigation and tips from the public.
Nova Scotia’s Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division, the Criminal Intelligence Service Nova Scotia, and RCMP Police Dog Services were also involved in the investigation.
Officers seized 760,000 contraband cigarettes valued at $250,000, more than 3,000 methamphetamine pills and approximately $30,000 in cash.
Forty-nine-year-old Robert Trent Smith of Clarenville was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime and selling of unauthorized tobacco products.
