The Nunatsiavut Government is a step closer toward establishing an Inuit Protected Area along the north coast of Labrador.
Nunatsiavut President Johannes Lampe and federal minister responsible for Parks Canada, Steven Guilbeault yesterday announced the completion of a feasibility assessment that deemed the creation of a new Inuit Protected Area in northern Labrador as “feasible and desired.”
The proposed area in the Labrador Sea is comprised of some 16,700 square km, next to the Torngat Mountains National Park.
The area is home to a variety of species including polar bear, whales, dolphins, seals and numerous seabirds, waterfowl and fish.
