The Launch, which is Marine Institute’s “living lab” in Holyrood, has been designated as a test centre for NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic Network.
The Launch received the designation along with 12 other test centres, and two accelerator sites across the country.
Director Kelly Santos says the news is part of a “very significant expansion” across numerous NATO countries, and notes that The Launch is actually one of two sites chosen in this province—the other being the National Research Council’s facility in St. John’s.
Santos says their facility is now part of a network of over 200 sites, which opens the door for collaboration with various researchers and innovators.
She says that opens them up to the various challenges that the NATO DIANA program issues. That means researchers can choose The Launch as a site for their work and make use of their facilities and expertise.
