The province has released a report into the recent review of the Personal Health Information Act.
Recommendations in the report include ensuring that privacy protections remain of the utmost importance, including ensuring accountability and the clarity of roles and that provisions be added that require an agreement with custodians when sharing public health information with researchers.
Another major privacy concern relates to cyber security in light of the recent cyber attack on the province’s health care system. The review committee recommended that reasonable measures be taken to align legislation with national and international cyber security standards.
The Department of Health says it is reviewing the recommendations.
