The snow has begun in central Newfoundland and it will spread to the metro region around mid-afternoon, just in time for the supper commute.
Less than 5 cm is forecast to fall in the region late this afternoon and into the early evening before turning back to rain, but it will be blustery for a few hours with high winds.
The story this evening will be the wind, whipping up to 80 km/h in some areas.
Environment Canada meteorologist Erika Ranger admits, it’s not the kind of forecast people want to hear after a long winter.
“Pretty blustery with all of that, winds will be about 40 to 60 km/h and up to 80 km/h along parts of the coast later this afternoon into this evening” says Ranger, “so not a great day for metro, sorry.”
