Heavier vehicles will be barred from using the main overpass into and out of downtown St. John’s for two days next week.
The weight restrictions are necessary due to ongoing work on the bridge which links New Gower Street and Pitts Memorial Drive.
The Department of Transportation says the maximum load limit for vehicles will be reduced to 15 tonnes, or 15,000 kilograms, from 10 a.m. on Monday, April 22 until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23rd.
Vehicles weighing more than that will have to use a different route during that time.
Highway enforcement officers will be on site to monitor and enforce the temporary weigh restriction.
Failure to comply could result in a minimum fine of $100 to a maximum of $900.
Not paying the fine could lead to jail time of at least two days, up to a maximum of 30 days.
