The official Opposition says it supports the development of wind power in the province, however, they want to make sure Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are the principal beneficiaries.
Exploits MHA Pleaman Forsey says the PCs are cautiously optimistic after World Energy GH2 received the green light for a wind-hydrogen project on the southwest coast.
The project will see more than 300 wind turbines erected on the Port au Port Peninsula and in the Codroy Valley, as well as a hydrogen-ammonia plant in the area.
Forsey says the project has the potential for significant economic benefits, but the party wants to make sure that community benefits agreements are in place and that environmental guidelines are followed to ensure the project best serves the province, the local region and its residents.
The PCs also want to see the plans for the eventual decommissioning of the project, including associated costs and plans for restoration and clean up.
