A hiring blitz appears to be on to attract more teachers into the province’s education system.
Ads from NL Schools have started appearing in people’s social media feeds seeking more than 250 permanent teaching positions.
That’s all well and good says NLTA President Trent Langdon, but an equal focus needs to be put on retention, especially in rural parts of the province.
He says the 250 positions being offered don’t really reflect the seriousness of the staffing shortage in education.
He says there are fewer grads coming out of Memorial each year than the current 250 positions being offered. Right now says Langdon, retired teachers are being brought back to fill gaps.
