The provincial government has issued a Request for Proposals for the installation and operation of traffic cameras across the province.
A pilot project launched last year resulted in what former Digital Government minister Sarah Stoodley called “shocking” findings.
Speed cameras in Mount Pearl and Paradise picked up 93,000 vehicles driving at speeds of 11 km/h or more above the posted speed limit.
The candidate will also be required to issue tickets to the owners of vehicles caught speeding on camera.
Specific locations for the speed cams have not yet been chosen and will be determined through consultation with municipalities and police.
The RFP closes on October 8.
