Municipal politicians from across the province were in Gander this weekend talking about all issues relating to local government.
Municipal Affairs Minister John Haggie presented cheques to the towns of Appleton-Glenwood and Stephenville at the annual conference of Municipalities Newfoundland Labrador totaling about $40,000, rewarding them for reducing their carbon footprint.
The towns used green wetland technology to treat wastewater, using natural solutions without chemicals, moving parts or electricity. Not only did the practice reduce emissions, but it lowered their costs.
The technology was provided by Sharp Management and Wetland Treatment Solutions.
Owner Glenn Sharp says they have related solutions for every town in the province.
