Opposition PCs are calling on the province to find ways to improve cell service.
Loyola O’Driscoll says residents are frustrated with poor service in his Ferryland district and even in the capital city.
He says the province should push for better coverage from the providers.
“No doubt about it, we need more cell phone towers. But we have lost our service over the last few years, and people in every district can tell you that their cell phone coverage has gone down. What can we do as the opposition to help the government get after these companies that we pay big money to for cell phone coverage and we’re not getting what we pay for?” he noted.
Technology Minister Andrew Parsons says he, too, is finding more issues as of late.
He says he has meetings set up with providers to look at the issue, but notes it’s out of government’s hands.
“These companies are not doing good enough. It is not acceptable. But we have to find a way to make them live up to that. We’ve got to help customers make sure that their complaints are heard,” said Parsons.
