The province’s tourism minister is looking forward to a busy 2025 with the metro region hosting the Canada Summer Games.
Thousands of athletes, families and supporters from across the country will converge on the capital city region this August.
The provincial government has declared 2025 as the Year of Sport in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Minister Steve Crocker says the games are bringing some exciting and long-needed upgrades to sport infrastructure in St. John’s and elsewhere.
The province alone has infused some $50 million to date into the Canada Summer Games, something Crocker says will benefit Newfoundlanders and Labradorians for a long time.
“This is investment in infrastructure. Were going to have a world-class track down on (MUN’s) campus, we’re going to have a revitalized Aquarena. Other facilities around the metro area are going to get some much-needed upgrades. This gives a new opportunity to breathe some new life in this valuable infrastructure, while highlighting the value of sport to the community.”
