Work is well underway in transforming the old West End Fire Station into a residential living space.
Reardon Construction is adding an extra storey to the current structure while maintaining its historic significance.
The West End Fire Station was built during World War II according to War Times Act specifications to withstand a potential bombardment.
The building also contains an area that once stabled horses used in firefighting. The St. John’s Regional Fire Department vacated the building in 2016 in favour or a new west end station on Blackmarsh Road.
Once renovation work is complete, the building is expected to include 16 two-bedroom apartments and four one-bedroom suites.
