It would be a few years down the road, if it did happen at all, but St. John’s would be considered a site for a Memorial Cup tournament according to the QMJHL.
The St. John’s-based major junior hockey team is expected to roll out a logo and name in a week or so as it prepares to re-enter the major junior circuit in the fall.
Karl Jahnke, a league official who was in St. John’s on the weekend, says the Mary Brown’s Centre, which seats about 6,500, fits the bill for a Memorial Cup tournament.
They had been thinking of it 20-some years ago during the Fog Devils’ tenure in St. John’s, but the team folded before it could become a reality.
