A class-action lawsuit is in the works for those on board an Air Canada Express flight that landed hard on the runway in Halifax in December.
The landing gear on one side of the PAL aircraft failed on landing, causing the propeller to come into contact with the runway, sparking a fire.
In a statement by the Transportation Safety Board, it appears as though the plane blew a tire on takeoff at St. John’s, and the crew was not aware of the damage.
According to the TSB, the blown tire caused an imbalance that produced a vibration that caused the left main landing gear to collapse.
Halifax lawyer Ray Wagner has had nearly a dozen people reach out to his firm after passengers were left on the tarmac for nearly an hour.
He says it’s concerning that nobody informed the pilots that there was debris left on the runway in St. John’s.
“We know that there was debris from the tire on the runway. We don’t know why that was not found and or communicated to the pilot so that the pilot will be aware of the circumstances and could have taken precautions to mitigate the crash or to stay in St. John’s. We just don’t have any information on that. But that is something that we would want to know. Why wasn’t that noticed? Why wasn’t that communicated to the pilots?”
