The town of Bauline has been taking a pro-active approach in recent years to the environment and tackling the human factors driving climate change.
Councillor Heidi Kolodnisky says the town has an opt-in curb-side composting program to help divert more waste from the local landfill – and the response has been positive so far.
Bauline, which has a population of just over 400 people, is only the second municipality in Newfoundland and Labrador to establish a municipally-run curbside composting program.
She says the compost collected goes to their composting site in the Bauline e-garden, which is what she calls very small-scale and basic. Kolodnisky says they have composters set up in town for residents to drop material off as well. The compost collected will be used by the town and for distribution back into the community for those who are interested.
