St. John’s City Hall will be lit in yellow today to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp by Soviet troops.
A number of well-known landmarks across Canada will be bathed in yellow, to symbolize candle light, in remembrance of the six million Jewish men, women and children who were killed in the Holocaust and to honour Holocaust survivors.
Among the other buildings and landmarks across Canada involved in this year’s remembrance event are Niagara Falls, the National Gallery of Canada, the CN Tower, the Biosphere in Montreal and BC Place in Vancouver.
