Caribou are congregating near a portion of highway on the Northern Peninsula and drivers are being cautioned to keep an eye out.
A large part of the St. Anthony herd is spending the winter in the area between Flowers Cove and Eddies Cove East with many animals spotted on the road.
Caribou are attracted to the road salt, increasing the risk of being struck by traffic.
Drivers are being reminded to scan both sides of the highway, avoid traveling at dusk and dawn when caribou are more likely to be seen near the road, and to keep their speeds down.
