Shoppers Drug Mart is donating 4.7 million menstrual products to the province for distribution to schools and organizations across the province.
The donated products will primarily be distributed to junior high and high schools over the next three years, but Newfoundland and Labrador is the first jurisdiction in the country to also see the products distributed free of charge to post-secondary institutions, women’s centres, food banks, emergency shelters, transition houses and other organizations.
The first delivery is scheduled for March.
Shoppers Drug Mart has signed similar donation-based agreements with Ontario, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The approximate value of the donation is $1.9 million.
