The province is expanding a bus pass program to the west coast.
The two-year pilot is similar to a program involving Metrobus in the St. John’s area that allows people in receipt of the Guaranteed Income Supplement, those on income support and young people in Youth Services programs free bus passes.
Corner Brook MHA Gerry Byrne says the program will be implemented in Corner Brook through $120,000 provided to the city.
It will also be implemented in St. Anthony with $45,000 provided to St. Anthony Basin Resources Inc (SABRI).
Byrne says the program comes into effect April 1st, and in Corner Brook alone, they expect it will allow some 3,500 new users to be incorporated into the bus transit program.
