The MHA for Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair, whose political career was launched by her advocacy with the local school council, is pleased that a tender has been issued for the construction of a new K-12 school to replace Henry Gordon Academy, a school that was built 56 years ago.
The tender, issued earlier this month, includes the construction of a new K-12 school in Cartwright which will include housing for teachers, a community library and space for a gym and pre-kindergarten.
The tender also includes clean-up and demolition of the old school and the development of a new parking lot and sports field.
Lisa Dempster admits it’s been a long time coming.
She thanked the premier for his support and says they’re excited about the project and are hoping to see shovels in the ground this summer.
She believes the new school will be the first in the province to incorporate housing for local teachers.
