Minister Andrew Parsons has ruled out a run for the leadership of the provincial Liberal Party following Premier Andrew Furey’s impending resignation.
In a statement posted to Facebook this morning, Parsons said while he gave the idea serious thought after receiving encouragement from family, friends and colleagues, he has decided not to seek the role.
He noted that he had already taken steps toward the next chapter in his life and said the premier’s chair requires full dedication, patience and sacrifice. Parsons added that he has too much respect for his family, constituents, and the province to take on the role without giving it everything.
He thanked Premier Furey for his service and said he will continue to support his colleagues and whoever takes on the leadership.
