The provincial government is holding the line for yet another year on a gas tax cut that was introduced three years ago, but is not committing to slashing the tax permanently.
The cut was introduced in March 2022 in response to skyrocketing fuel costs as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Finance Minister Siobhan Coady says they made the decision to extend the cut, rather than implement it permanently, because they need to see how the economy is progressing first.
She says they need to look at their taxation options in terms of the economy as a whole, but doesn’t rule out making it permanent.
