It was a landslide victory for Mark Carney, who will be the new Prime Minister of Canada.
He had almost 86 per cent of the vote in a first-ballot victory over the other three contestants.
Carney becomes the 24th Prime Minister of Canada at a time when the world is in economic turmoil because of Donald Trump’s tariffs.
In his victory speech, Carney vowed to keep retaliatory tariffs on the United States in place until Canada is “shown respect.”
He also paid tribute to outgoing PM Justin Trudeau saying that he has guided us through some of the most difficult times ever.
He says he will work day and night with the purpose of building a stronger Canada.
Carney says he will eliminate the carbon tax and do away with the changes in the capital gains tax.
