The provincial Fisheries Minister is defending the government’s decision to go to the Boston Seafood Show next week, despite the threat of 25 per cent tariffs on exports hitting next month.
Being the topic of the VOCM Question of the Day, most respondents believe the exercise is a waste of time and money as Donald Trump’s mind is already made up.
Minister Gerry Byrne says there’s a reason why seafood companies from Newfoundland and Labrador choose to focus on the United States market. He notes that Boston is the largest seafood show in the world, with 176 countries in attendance.
Byrne says the buyers they want to connect with to help diversify the province’s markets will be at that event.
