Friends and family of a woman who was struck by a vehicle while in a crosswalk in St. John’s are raising money for her as she learns how to walk again.
Melissa Ralph was walking home from work on February 20 when an SUV slammed into her, breaking her pelvis in three places and leaving her shrieking in pain.
She has had two major surgeries, resulting in plates and pins being inserted.
Samantha Borskey, who is driving the GoFundMe campaign, says Melissa will have a long and painful recovery, lasting months. She will not be able to work and will have many needs including medical equipment, transportation to and from medical appointments, and a dog walker for her pet, just to name a few.
It will be weeks before she can put any weight at all on her leg, so she won’t be able to start physio, which essentially will be learning to walk again, until she sees some improvement.
Melissa thanks everyone who has helped her through what is an incredibly challenging journey.
