Metro police had to break out the spike belt, but even that wasn’t enough to stop a driver in hot pursuit during the wee hours.
Police flashed the lights on the car while on patrol in downtown St. John’s around 1 a.m., but the driver refused to pull over and took off.
Additional resources were called in as police followed the vehicle and a spike belt was deployed on the Trans Canada near Torbay Road in attempts to stop the car.
That didn’t deter the driver, who kept on going, despite having flat tires.
The car eventually came to a stop on Torbay Road where the man behind the wheel took off on foot, but didn’t get far as police managed to take him into custody.
The 34-year-old has been charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, resisting arrest and breach of probation.
He was held for court.
