Happy anniversary, Newfoundland and Labrador.
It was on this day, just before midnight March 31, 1949, that Newfoundland joined Canada as the country’s tenth and newest province.
At the time, the referendum vote was tightly contested, with less than 52 per cent of voters choosing to join Canada. It’s become a lively debate that continues in towns across this province today.
