Crews were busy in Avondale yesterday, searching for what was believed to be a person in distress.
The fire department first got the call just before 3:00 yesterday afternoon, when a homeowner thought they had heard someone yelling for help from the nearby woods. The fire department also heard the calls for distress at the time.
Search and rescue crews spent the next eight hours searching in the area of the ball field, Lee’s Pond and Lee’s Pond Mountain, with no luck.
The search was called off by members of the RCMP without any signs of the missing person.
The Avondale Volunteer Fire Department says there was no missing person reported to the RCMP before lunchtime Monday.
It’s the second such call to emergency responders in the last month or so. A similar call was received about a possible snowmobiler in distress near Victoria in February, but an extensive search failed to turn up any sign of anyone in need of assistance.
