A handful of people turned out over the lunch hour outside Newfoundland Power’s offices in St. John’s to protest higher-than-expected power bills in February.
Lisa Reardigan organized the protest on Facebook.
She says she was disappointed with the low turnout.
She says her Facebook event indicated a much greater number of people interested in attending, but in the end, “I’m finding there’s a lot of people that are basically what you call keyboard warriors…but that’s not what we’re looking for.” She was hoping for people to come out in numbers to show their disapproval of high heating bills.
Local residents were angered over February power bills that appeared to be significantly higher than normal. Newfoundland Power cited low temperatures and high winds as contributing to higher electrical heating costs.
