A small group of protesters were removed from the dock in Petty Harbour yesterday prior to the arrival of Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre.
Poilievre made a campaign stop in the community following a similar event in St. John’s.
Sarah Worthman, a founder of No Space for Hate, was among those who gathered in protest of what they say is the Conservatives’ record on human rights.
Worthman told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that Poilievre has spoken “multiple times about rolling back the rights of trans and gender diverse people. He has voted against marriage equality,” and he has made disparaging remarks about residential school survivors, among other concerns.
The small group of protestors were asked to leave the dock area.
“They kicked us out of the parking lot,” says Worthman. “It didn’t stop us, we stood at the entranceway to the parking lot. It’s definitely not a good sign when someone who wants to be the prime minister…can’t even handle a couple of peaceful protestors.”
