Memorial University is apologizing again today after re-instating the Ode to Newfoundland.
President Jennifer Lokash told VOCM News they’re sorry for the confusion caused by the Ode being dropped.
She says the actions were taken by a “former-former president” and do not reflect the university today.
At the time, then-president Vianne Timmons said the Ode to Newfoundland wasn’t inclusive and was subsequently dropped from convocations.
Lokash says the university will have more consultation going forward on decisions they make.
“We acknowledge fully that the university has a lot of work to rebuild relationships with people who were negatively impacted by the initial decision and as well as, you know, anyone who might be disappointed or upset by the decision at Senate yesterday.”
The Ode to Newfoundland will be part of the ceremonies in May.
