The Health Care Foundation’s push to bring robotic-assisted surgery to Newfoundland and Labrador has received a major boost, thanks to a $150,000 personal donation from Keith Bradbury and Brenda Snow.
The donation supports the foundation’s $8-million campaign to purchase and implement the da Vinci Xi surgical system—the province’s first robotic-assisted surgery technology.
The dual-console system is already in use for training at the Health Sciences Centre and is expected to perform over 500 complex surgeries a year once fully operational.
The system is expected to reduce recovery times, complications, and the need for patients to travel outside the province for care.
