RCMP are asking residents of the Avalon Peninsula not to light brush fires as dry weather increases the risk of spread.

Police say they’ve responded to multiple fires in the region and are urging the public to avoid outdoor burning until conditions improve.

The warning comes amid a stretch of dry weather, however much of the island is in for rain tonight and tomorrow.
