RCMP have arrested and charged the St. George’s town clerk following a reported armed robbery at the town council office on Tuesday.
RCMP received a call from the town office around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon indicating that an armed robbery had occurred.
The police investigation determined that an armed robbery never happened and that the clerk, who had reported the crime, had allegedly made a false report.
RCMP say evidence gathered at the scene suggested that 61-year-old Mary Spicer had stolen approximately $11,000 in cash from the town office.
She was arrested and is charged with public mischief and theft over $5000.
She’s scheduled to appear in court at a later date. The investigation continues.
