The provincial health authority is considering increased weapons detection systems at hospitals across the province.
In London, Ontario, new AI systems were installed to identify a gun or a knife as people pass through the doors. In the first week, it stopped 23 knives from entering its University Hospital.
NLHS Security Manager Allison Collins says that since the amalgamation of the health authority, they’ve increased security measures across the province and are looking for ways to take it further.
“So we are exploring weapon detection systems and other physical security measures that may enhance security at our sites. We like to take a proactive approach to security. We don’t want to be reactive, so we’re always exploring how we can improve security across the province,” she told VOCM News.
