The Newport Beach Police Department has released dramatic footage showing the moments leading up to the son of NTV’s CEO being killed by police.
Geoffrey Shyam Stirling, the son of NTV’s CEO Scott Stirling and grandson of the late Geoff Stirling, was killed on April 17 after police say he became “uncooperative” and “violent” after he was pulled over on his motorcycle.
The video shows two points of view: the dashcam footage from the police cruiser, and the bodycam footage from the officer involved.
The video shows a man, who they identify as Stirling, running a red light.
He is pulled over and gets off his bike. The officer can be heard asking Stirling to sit down multiple times, which he refuses to do.
An altercation then occurs between the officer and Stirling. Once the two separate, the officer yells “drop it” before firing multiple shots.
In the video, the police highlight instances where they allege Stirling removes the officer’s taser, holds it to the officer’s head, and points it at him.
The California Department of Justice is conducting an investigation into the incident.
