Canada Post has walked away from talks with the union representing postal workers with the deadline to reach a deal one week away.
The Crown Corporation says the pause in negotiations is necessary due to a lack of meaningful progress with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.
The federal government stepped in just before Christmas, mandating employees back to work after weeks on the picket line.
Negotiations resumed late last month, with the deadline to reach a deal set for next Thursday.
Failure to come to an agreement could once again bring the mail service to a halt.
