A second jury has been dismissed in the sexual assault trial of five former members of the 2018 Canada World Junior champion hockey team.
Justice Marie Carroccia announced today that the case will proceed by judge alone.
According to the Globe and Mail, the decision comes after a juror handed the judge a note on Thursday accusing two defence lawyers of “unprofessional” behaviour, saying that “multiple jury members” felt they were being judged and made fun of.
Both lawyers reportedly denied the accusation during legal arguments.
Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Dillon Dubé and Cal Foote are each accused of sexual assault following an incident in a hotel room in June of 2018 following a Hockey Canada gala event celebrating the team’s championship win.
