The House of Assembly is selling off old seal leather chairs that were used in the legislature for 30 years to current and former elected officials—at a cost of $250 each.
The chairs were used for members’ seating in the House of Assembly from 1991 to 2021.
They were retired due to “deterioration beyond repair” and for ergonomic reasons.
Anyone who was a member of the House of Assembly during the period when the chairs were used is invited to submit an expression of interest.
The chairs are being sold on an as is, where is basis, and will be randomly assigned to purchasers.
If there are more people interested than there are chairs, a random draw will be conducted.
If there aren’t enough applications, another expression of interest will be issued that will include the public.
Any current or former members eligible to purchase a chair must email clerkhoa@gov.nl.ca by 4:30 p.m. on June 6.
