The Marine Institute has announced that Maxime Geoffroy will be the chief research scientist aboard the Tara polar station on a trip to the central Arctic Ocean.

Dr. Geoffroy will be joining 12 other scientists and crew on a 250-day long adventure through the ocean, studying the changing Arctic environment and the effects of climate change.

Organized by the Tara Ocean Foundation, researchers will be working in a remote polar station equipped with observatory windows, a saucer-shaped hull, and a moon pool for under-ice sampling. The station will travel to the Arctic under its own power before being embedded into the sea ice.

Because of the extremely remote conditions, the university says each team member was carefully selected based on their expertise and mutual compatibility.
