The provincial government is offering a reminder about who is eligible and who is not when it comes to applying for a lottery licence.
The province says all charitable lotteries and gaming events in Newfoundland and Labrador must be licensed to operate and must be conducted in accordance with regulations.
The Department of Government Modernization and Service Delivery says while there are many people and groups who want to host a charitable lottery or fundraiser in support of a good cause, you must meet specific eligibility to obtain a license to conduct a lottery.
General rules related to charitable lotteries identify a number of events that are eligible to apply for a licence. They include bingos, bingo break-opens, breakopens, chase the ace fundraisers, games of chance, Monte Carlo events, sports lotteries and ticket lotteries including those offering door prizes and raffles.
If you’re thinking about organizing a fundraising lottery, check the provincial government website to see if you are eligible.
