The town of Wabana on Bell Island has lost its only gas station.
King’s Irving announced on Facebook earlier this week that the store would be closing until further notice due to “sustained low sales,” making the operation “no longer viable.”
They say they have made every effort to find a solution, including working with government, but even that has resulted in “obstacles and delays” beyond their control.
Mayor Philip Tobin calls the closure “devastating.”
He says King’s Irving was the only gas station in the community, so it is “going to be a rough go for everybody” while they try to figure out a solution. For now, Tobin states there is no gas on Bell Island and they are looking for answers on how to move forward.
