A radiothon for health care on the Burin Peninsula raised a total of $151,000 yesterday, enough to acquire equipment which will help improve diagnostic services and treatment.
The VOCM Cares Foundation, which helped coordinate the fundraising effort with the Burin Peninsula Health Care Foundation, says it was a success.
The money will go toward a new ultrasound system for the hospital in Burin, upgrades to the palliative care room at the Blue Crest Nursing Home in Grand Bank, a bladder scanner for the hospital in St. Lawrence and general assistance vouchers on the peninsula to cover patient expenses for things like transportation, meals and accommodations.
